Smithville to host Lago Vista, seek first win

The Smithville Tigers varsity football team aims for its first win of the season when it hosts the Lago Vista Vikings Friday, Oct. 18.

The Tigers are currently 0-6 overall and 0-2 in district play, while the Vikings boast a strong 5-2 record and sit at 2-1 in the district.

Smithville's defense will face a challenge against a Lago Vista offense that averages 29.2 points per game, led by junior quarterback Tripp Henderson, who has thrown for 694 yards and four touchdowns.

The Tigers’ offense needs to find its rhythm, as it has averaged just 15 points per game. Junior running back Justin Gurley leads Smithville with 502 rushing yards and one touchdown this season, while senior quarterback Jackson Frazier and junior wide receiver Eric Thompson are also key contributors.

For Smithville to pull off an upset, avoiding turnovers will be crucial; a mistake-free game is essential. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
