SMITHVILLE — The Smithville Tigers varsity volleyball team was swept 3-0 by the Giddings Buffaloes on Friday, Oct. 18, dropping the Tiger s to 11-18 overall and 2-5 in district play.
Smithville kept pace early in the first set, tied at 10-10, before Giddings broke away with a 15-5 scoring run to take the set 2515. The second set saw the Tigers tied at 7-7, but they struggled to keep up as the Buffaloes pulled ahead for a 25-17 win. The final set was the most competitive, with Smithv i l le f ight ing hard but ultimately falling short, 25-21.
Serve returns continued to be a major issue for the Tigers, as Giddings took advantage with several aces throughout the match. With two games left in the regular season, Smithville is focused on rebounding and finishing strong.
Giddings improved to 16-25 overall and 5-2 in district competition.
The Tigers will hit the road to face Caldwell on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 6 p.m., before returning home to host Navasota on Friday, Oct. 25, at 5 p.m.
