Honoring local caregivers this November

November marks National Family Caregivers Month, a time to honor the millions of dedicated individuals who provide compassionate care to their loved ones across Bastrop County and beyond.

In Texas alone there are approximately 3.1 million caregivers whose invaluable support is estimated to be worth $41 billion, according to the American Association of Retired Persons. These caregivers play a vital role in helping older Texans stay active, prepare meals, schedule appointments and manage medications.

Many caregivers cherish their role for the deepened relationships they build with their loved ones and the meaningful impact they make in their lives. Their experience also translates into the workplace — a recent Harvard Business Review study shows that caregivers bring enhanced empathy, efficiency and persistence to their jobs.

Employers who recognize and support the needs of caregivers can tap into these valuable skills, according to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.

Despite their dedication, caregivers often need additional training, support and resources to provide the best care possible. The Texas HHSC oversees the Strengthen the Care You Give campaign, which aims to raise awareness about the essential role of family caregivers, the challenges they face and available services and support.

The campaign provides a variety of media options and marketing materials, including editable templates and social media graphics.
