The Elgin Wildcats powered to a decisive 45-23 victory over the Pf lugerville Connally Cougars Friday, Nov. 1, advancing to 4-5 overall and 4-2 in district play.
Setting the tone early, the Wildcats opened with a fake field goal t urned touchdown, jumping ahead 7-0.
Senior standout Jalen Owens led the charge with 195 total yards and four touchdowns, including a key goal-line score that extended Elgin’s lead to 14-0. Connal ly answered with a 10-yard touchdown pass, trimming the gap to 14-7, but Elgin surged ahead, adding 24 unanswered points and holding a dominant 38-7 lead by the fourth quarter.
While both teams managed late-game scores, the Wildcats maintained control for a convincing win. Senior wide receiver Zaire Nuells excelled as Owens’ top target, logging 50 receiving yards and a touchdown. Sophomore quarterback Dylan Owens contributed 100 all-purpose yards and a touchdown, with senior wide receiver Noddyn Bailey adding another score.
Defensively, junior defensive ends Lewis Reese and Tanner Magnuson anchored Elgin’s front line, combining for seven tackles for loss and consistently pressuring the Cougars’ backfield. Senior defensive back Noddyn Bailey topped the tackle chart with 10.
Elgin will look to build on this win when they travel to face Navarro Friday, Nov. 8, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
