The Elgin Wildcats capped off their regular season with a dominant 55-7 win over the Navarro Vikings Friday, Nov. 8, finishing 5-5 overall and 5-2 in district play.

Elgin wasted no time, jumping to a 35-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Junior running back Gary Jefferson Jr. set the tone with a 75-yard touchdown run, opening the scoring at 7-0. Jefferson added two more touchdowns, finishing with 89 rushing yards on the night. Sophomore quarterback Dylan Owens also connected with senior wide receiver Zaire Nuells on a remarkable touchdown pass to the back of the end zone, putting Elgin ahead 21-0 with Owens’ only score of the night.

The Wildcats' defense was just as dominant, forcing two turnovers in the opening quarter. Senior linebacker Noddyn Bailey recovered a fumble, which led to a touchdown, and senior defensive back Marcus Hickerman returned an interception for a touchdown to make the game 35-0. Bailey led the team with five tackles, while Hickerman added one.

Senior all-purpose player Jalen Owens threw a 16yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 42-0, and junior running backs Jeremiah Nicholson and J.J. Reed each added rushing touchdowns to seal the win.

The Wildcats now turn their attention to the postseason, where they will face the Jefferson Mustangs in the first round on Friday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m.

The Mustangs finished their season with a 5-5 record and a 5-1 district mark. The game will be held at Alamo Stadium in San Antonio.
