BASTROP’S BIRTHDAY BASTROP – Celebrate Bastrop’s namesake, Philip Hendrik Nering Bögel, better known as the Baron de Bastrop, at the Bastrop Museum & Visitor Center Saturday, Nov. 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Learn about the 'Godfather of Texas,' snap a photo with his likeness and enjoy a special birthday treat. CORNERSTONE LEVELING ELGIN – Elgin Lodge #328, in partnership with the Grand Lodge of Texas, will perform a “Cornerstone Leveling Ceremony” at the new Harvest Ridge Elementary School Nov. 26, at 1 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

HERMANN SONS LIFE COUPLAND – Hermann Sons Life Coupland – New Bern will host its Family Christmas Party and a short meeting at the Coupland Firehall Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend, and some will be recognized for over 50 years of membership. Children will receive a small gift from Santa. Families are asked to bring a dessert and non-perishable food items for the Shepherd’s Heart Food Pantry in Taylor; the meal and drinks will be provided.
