SMITHVILLE — The Lady Tigers took three of four games at the Flatonia Tournament last weekend, improving Smithville’s record to 12-7 with another win over Aussie Dec. 11.

Vs. Aussie

Smithville opened strong against Aussie, jumping out to a 6-2 lead after junior guard Sydnie Brenner’s steal set up a fast-break layup for junior forward LaDonije Lewis.

The girls built a double- digit lead in the second quarter, as Brenner continued to anchor the defense and tally points to push the margin to 42-22.

Senior guard Arabella Gutierrez added to the offensive effort, helping the Lady Tigers close out the game with a convincing 58-32 victory, shooting 36% from the field and an efficient 75% from the freethrow line.

Flatonia Tournament

The Lady Tigers carried their momentum into the four-game tournament, only dropping one to tournament host Flatonia, 6432, in the final game.

Smithville opened with a dominant 63-30 win over Victoria East, followed by a hard-fought 46-42 victory against East Bernard and a 56-32 triumph over Fayetteville.

The team, under Head Coach Jamie Kadlececk, impressed on both ends of the court, averaging 51 points per game while holding opponents to 40.

Smithville returns to action Friday, Dec. 20, when they face Gonzales at 3:15 p.m.
