Elgin finished 1-1 at the boys varsity basketball tournament in Marble Falls last weekend, remaining positive on the season at 8-4 overall.

Vs. Cedar Park

The Wildcats faced a tough challenge in their opening game, falling 59-39 to Cedar Park.

Elgin struggled to gain momentum after a slow start, trailing 8-0 early. The Timber Wolves extended their lead by capitalizing on fast-break points, a recurring issue for the Wildcats, as turnovers allowed Cedar Park to run the floor for easy baskets.

A stretch of four consecut ive tur nover s helped Cedar Park hit another eight-point run, further widening the gap.

Though Elgin fought back to cut the deficit to 41-25 in the third quarter, the Wildcats couldn’t capitalize on opportunities late in the game.

Vs. Sweeny

Maintaining composure after the tough loss, Elgin bounced back in its second game to defeat Sweeny 59-45.

The Wildcats took an early 11-7 lead in the first quarter, extended to 22-15 by halftime.

Elgin maintained its advantage in the second half with continued pressure, leading 44-37 heading into the fourth quarter.

A late 11-4 run sealed the victory over the Bulldogs.
