BASTROP — The Bastrop Museum and Visitor Center’s Jan. 23 meeting will feature a presentation on Leah Moncure, Bastrop native and first woman professional engineer in Texas. Presented by Sandra Chipley, licensed landscape architect and Bastrop County Historical Commission vice chair, the dialogue will explore how Moncure broke barriers in the field with the Texas Highway Department. A Texas Historical Commission marker to honor Moncure was received in September and will be installed at her family home, 1601 Main St. The free event will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the museum, 904 Main St.
