Bastrop County Cares has been awarded $1.5 million in grants to help address health equity, economic stability and strengthen community well-being in the area.
The substantial sum from St. David’s Foundation came through two transformative funding initiatives earlier this month.
“We are deeply honored and grateful for St. David’s Foundation’s generous suppor t,” Norma Mercado said, BCC executive director. “These grants represent a significant opportunity to strengthen our capacity and deepen our impact in the communities we serve. By working together, we can create sustainable, community- led solutions to advance health equity in Central Texas.”
The first award, a $500,000 grant through the Community Driven Change initiative, will focus on elevating community engagement in decision making and leadership. The project seeks to foster healthier and more equitable communities across the county, according to representatives.
The second grant, totaling $1 million, comes courtesy of the Investing in Impact project. The funding will support the organization’s capacity as a community-rooted intermediary and bolster re-granting efforts to serve areas with the greatest health needs, BCC officials said.
Both grants will be dist r ibuted over a 24-month-long period.
As unrestricted grants, the funds offer flexibility to tackle evolving community priorities and expand initiatives across the county, according to BCC.
