Elgin’s varsity boys basketball program remains winless in district play after a 73-47 loss to the East View Patriots Jan. 7.
The defeat marked the Wildcats’ fourth consecutive double-digit loss.
The team struggled to keep up with East View’s offense, trailing 15-7 at the end of the first quarter. Issues with shooting continued in the second, as the Patriots went on a 12-6 run, extending their lead to 27-13 midway through the period.
Senior guard Amar B e rmude z br i e f l y stopped the bleeding with a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 27-16, but Elgin still trailed 36-20 at halftime. Bermudez would go on to finish with 10 points.
In the third, senior guard Tyson McFarlin knocked down a threepointer to help trim the deficit to 43-28. East View maintained control, though, closing out the game with a 20-9 run.
McFarlin led the Wildcats with a team-high 20 points. Senior center Jonathan Richard added 10 points, including a dunk to briefly bring the Wildcats back within 15.
Elgin shot 40% from the field and just 15% from beyond the arc, compared to East View’s 50% and 32%, respectively.
The Wildcats dropped to 12-11 overall and 0-4 in district play, looking to turn things around when they host Hendrickson, Jan. 14, before traveling to Weiss on Friday, Jan. 17, for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
