BASTROP-CEDAR CREEK — The Eagles cruised to a 79-38 victory over the Bears Jan. 17, earning Cedar Creek’s second consecutive district win while extending Bastrop’s losing streak to eight games.
Cedar Creek varsity basketball senior guard Kenji Franklin played an uncontested game, sinking 30 points and shooting 8-for-13 from the field.
The Eagles created distance on the scoreboard early, capping off a 24-10 lead at the end of the first quarter with a threepointer from Franklin. They continued to push their advantage, securing a 20-point advantage in the third period and doubling Bastrop’s score by the end of the game.
Junior Nomar Ruvalcaba followed behind Franklin with 16 points, while senior guard Phineas Koplin and senior Braydon Adams each finished with 10.
The Bears struggled offensively, shooting just 27% from the field, while Cedar Creek recorded an efficient 47%.
Cedar Creek improved to 15-13 overall with the lopsided win, 4-2 in district play, and Bastrop fell to 9-17, 1-5 for the conference.
The Eagles will return to the court against Anderson Jan. 21 before hosting Navarro, Jan. 24, at 8 p.m. — the Bears will face Navarro and travel to Liberty Arts and Science Academy on the same schedule.
