Elgin Independent School Dist r ict has chosen the location and architect for one of the biggest projects in its 2024 bond package.
DLR Group will handle the design for the district’s second middle school, tentatively named Middle School No. 2, expected to open in fall 2027. The design process is projected to take nine months to complete, according to district representatives.
The new campus will be built on a 140-acre site along FM 1704, just north of Lower Elgin Road and approximately five miles south of Booker T. Washington Elementary School. Elgin ISD is f inalizing a contract with Bartlett Cocke General Contractors as the construction manager at risk, following board approval in December.
Last year, local voters approved a $375 million bond referendum aimed at addressing rapid enrollment g rowt h, enhanci ng student safet y, expanding career and technical education programs and completing priority maintenance projects.
Impor t a nt ly, t he bond package will not increase the district’s tax rate, representatives said. In addition to Middle School No. 2, the referendum includes plans for Elementary School No. 6, career and technical education upgrades, athletic improvements, addit ional buses, Phase 2 of the new Transportation Center and various campus enhancements.
Meanwhile, projects from Elgin ISD’s 2021 bond are progressing, according to the district. Construction is underway on Trinity Ranch Elementary, additions at Elgin High School, district-wide safety upgrades and the Transpor tat ion Center.
Har vest Ridge Elementa r y and the Multi-Purpose Facility are among the several projects already completed from the 2021 package.
