Season-low temperatures and a brief winter flurry last week disrupted more than just roadways in Elgin.
An extended weekend for local students and canceled Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission Walk were among the freeze’s impacts — but the chill also means Elgin’s next City Council meeting will be a packed one.
Agenda items from the city’s cancelled Jan. 21 session will now be addressed during the Feb. 4 regular meeting, Mayor Theresa McShan confirmed.
Key topics slated for discussion include resolutions tied to the Elgin Police Department and Roy Rivers Ut i lit ies projects, a quarterly report from the Parks Advisory Board and several new business items that have already faced delays.
Among these is the distribution of $50,000 allocated in the city’s annual budget to support local nonprofits, first tabled during the Jan. 7 meeting. Council members are also expected to present appointees for the new c ity char ter review committee, a matter under discussion for the past two months.
Other deferred items include the 2025 police pay scale, appointments to the Bastrop County Board of Health and the search process for Elgin’s next city manager.
As of press deadline, the agenda for the Feb. 4 meeting had not yet been posted on the city’s website.
