The Elgin Courier welcomes a new face to its newsroom with the arrival of Jason Chlapek, who began his tenure as area managing editor Feb. 3.
Chlapek replaces April Kelley, who passed away in December, and will work alongside Managing Editor Niko Demetriou to provide content for the Courier.
Chlapek has spent his entire 20-year career in the Texas newspaper industry, working at dailies in New Braunfels, Plano, Kerrville, Seguin, Killeen and Temple; a tri-weekly in Brenham; and various weeklies in Madisonville, Gonzales, Center, Trinity County, Whitesboro and Free stone County.
During his time in Madisonville, Gonzales and Center, those publications operated under Granite Publications — now Granite Media Partners — which also publishes the Elgin Courier and the Madisonville Meteor.
In his new role, Chlapek will serve as area managing editor for both the Courier and the Taylor Press, another Granite publication.
“It’s been a great first two weeks on the job,” he said. “I’ve met some wonderful people and look forward to meeting more wonderful people. I am blessed to be a part of two outstanding publications in the Courier and the Press, and I look forward to giving the readers of those papers balanced, quality content.”
