The Elgin Lady Wildcats varsity sof tball team endured a challenging Comal Tournament from Feb. 15-17, going winless in five games against strong competition.
The results extended Elgin’s losing streak to five to open the season, though the team remains determined to turn things around.
Tou r n ame nt pl a y began with an 8-0 loss to Westlake, followed by a run-rule defeat to Summer Creek in just three innings. The Lady Cats then fell 9-4 to Plano West, coming up short against another formidable opponent. In their fourth game, Elgin showed resilience in a 6-2 loss to Lehman, nearly overcoming a four-run deficit before running out of steam.
The final contest against Dripping Springs proved especially tough, as the Lady Wildcats were runruled 11-0 in three innings. Dripping Springs jumped ahead with four runs in the first two frames and erupted for seven in the third to seal the victory.
Despite the setbacks, sophomore Kiley Kyser provided a bright spot for Elgin by earning a place on the All-Tournament Team. Her consistent efforts throughout the weekend offered hope for Elgin in an otherwise difficult stretch.
The girls will look to bounce back when they visit Taylor Tuesday, Feb. 18, before heading to the Abilene ISD Icebreaker Tournament from Feb. 20-22.
