The Lady Bears soccer team won back-to–back games last week, and the boys tallied their first win in district.
The Bastrop girls are now 3-3 and rank fourth in district. The boys improved to 1-4-1 and must continue to stack victories to ascend in the standings.
After both squads fell to East View on Monday, Feb. 6, Bastrop looked to bounce back against the Elgin Wildcats the following night.
The Lady Bears found themselves in a defensive slugfest on their home field versus the Lady ‘Cats. The score was tied 0-0 at the break. Bastrop finally broke through and found the back of the net in the second half, resulting in a 1-0 lead which was the final score.
The boys’ game featured a bit more offensive firepower. After the Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead, the Bears evened the score with a crucial second-half goal. Yet, Elgin scored once more and hung on to win 2-1.
The Lady Bears traveled to face their heated rival, the Cedar Creek Eagles, later in the week. Bastrop got off to a scorching start, keeping their foot firmly planted on the gas pedal right from the get-go. At halftime, the Lady Bears held a comfortable 3-0 lead. They continued to execute on both ends of the field to lock up a 4-1 victory.
The Bastrop boys came out attacking in their home matchup versus the Eagles. Though they looked sharp on offense and attempted a number of shots-on-goal, Eagles goalkeepers Eduardo Macedo and Alexis Tinajero Vences combined for seven saves to keep the Bears off the board.
Eventually, Bastrop scored in the second half to gain a 1-0 advantage. They played solid defense down the stretch to secure the victory.
The Bastrop squads will look to build off their momentous wins as they face Georgetown (Feb. 14) and Pflugerville (Feb. 17) this week.
