MANOR — The Cedar Creek Eagles’ season ended Tuesday, Feb. 18, with a 51-41 loss to the Weiss Red Wolves in the bi-district round of the playoffs at Manor Senior High School.
Cedar Creek opened strong, holding an 11-7 lead after the first quarter behind senior forward Kenji Franklin and junior guard Phineas Koplin.
However, the Eagles went four minutes without scoring as Weiss answered with a 9-0 run to move ahead 16-11. Koplin broke the drought with a 3-pointer, and a Franklin layup soon tied the game at 16. A late 3-pointer f rom senior guard Brayden Adams then gave Cedar Creek a one-point edge at halftime.
The teams traded leads in the third quarter before Weiss seized control on an 8-2 run, making it 2621. The Eagles responded with a surge of their own, taking a 29-26 lead after junior guard Nomar Rulvalcaba’s layup-and-one free throw.
Weiss came right back with a fast-break dunk to regain the advantage at 30-29, then closed the contest on a 16-6 run to pull away.
Rulvalcaba led the Eagles with 12 points, while Franklin added 10 in the losing effort.
Cedar Creek ended the year 20-15 overall and 9-3 in district play, reaching the postseason for the second consecutive year.
