ABILENE — Two Elgin Wildcats senior lifters capped off their seasons on the state stage Saturday, March 22, at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Meet.
Joseph Stiggers placed 16th in the 308-pound weight class, recording a 650-pound squat, 385-pound bench press and 640-pound deadlift for a 1,675-pound total.
Teammate Miguel Nunez was unable to place after bombing out—a term used when a lifter fails to complete a successful attempt in at least one event.
Despite the challenges of state-level competition, both lifters posted strong seasons, breaking personal and school records along the way.
Coaches said Stiggers and Nunez set a high standard for future Elgin powerlifters and leave behind a legacy of dedication and achievement.
