Janice (Jana) Hellbusch

The community of Bastrop lost an integral member on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, when Janice (Jana) Lanet Hellbusch passed away at the age of 73. Jana had lived in Bastrop for 22 years and touched the lives of so many during that time. She was a vibrant, joyful woman who gave her time generously to organizations close to her heart.

Over the years she served as president of the evening Lions Club and the Lost Pines Garden Club, chairman of the Red, White & Blue Veteran’s Committee, on the boards of the Bastrop County Board of Realtors, the Heart of Texas Chamber of Commerce, the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce and the Bastrop Pregnancy Resource Center, an officer of Bastrop County Republicans, and a member of the Bastrop Rotary Club, the Bastrop Citizens Police Academy and Citizens on Patrol, the Bastrop County Sherriff Citizens Academy, and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life committee. She was a sponsor and contributor to Feed the Need and the Empty Bowl project, among many other organizations and adopted families at Christmas through the Children’s Advocacy Center. Jana received the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce Point of Light Award in 2006 and, most proudly, the Bastrop County Volunteer of the Year award in 2018. Jana was fierce in her drive to help others.

Jana is survived by her husband, Robert Hellbusch, her two children Jeffrey and Monica Poss, her sister Diana Fink, and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. We will all miss her terribly.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Jan. 13, at 11 a.m. at The Gathering, 287 FM 20 inBastrop. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of the organizations mentioned above. It would delight Jana to know that she is still serving these communities even after she has been welcomed into God’s embrace.
