She was born Nov. 19, 1940, in Taylor, Texas, to Frank and Malinda Mogonye and resided in the Taylor area. The family moved to California for one year when Jeanette was five years old but returned to Elgin. She moved to Austin during her junior high years, returned to Elgin in her junior year of high school, and graduated from Elgin High School in 1958.

Over the years, Jeanette enjoyed ceramics, cake decorating, landscaping, fishing, photography and genealogy. Jeanette wanted to be a journalist, and although that is not the career she pursued, it would explain why she took such an interest in genealogy.
