Elgin’s varsity volleyball program split their matches last week, sweeping the Travis Rebels 3-0 Sept. 3 before falling 3-1 to the Akins Eagles on Friday.
Sophomore setter/hitter Meta Elliot led the Wildcats against Travis with eight serving points and six kills, while senior Kay-Nicole Lester contributed four kills in the match against Akins.
Elgin dominated their match against the Rebels, winning in straight sets with scores of 25-15, 25-12 and 25-10. Senior setter Nadia Saguastume and senior outside hitter A'Laja Roberson were key contributors, combining for 10 serving points.
However, the Wildcats faced challenges later in the week against Akins, splitting the first two sets but ultimately falling short in the third and fourth sets, 25-9 and 2514. Senior middle hitter Sabra Baker added three kills in the effort.
Elgin’s schedule remains tough as they prepare to host LBJ Austin on Tuesday, Sept. 10, followed by their first district game of the season against Hendrickson on Friday, Sept. 13. Both matches will be played at home at 6:30 p.m.
