One lucky local claimed a $1 million scratch ticket last week, Texas Lottery officials said.
The Elgin resident remains anonymous after claiming the first of four top prizes from the Lucky Millions lottery. The winning ticket was purchased at the Elgin Quick Mart, near Elgin High School.
Quick Mart management stated that scratch-off sales have gone up since the winner was announced Tuesday evening.
“People right away come to buy more tickets, the exact same one,” Amin Maridia said, the man who sold the million- dollar ticket. “It’s exciting, everyone is happy, coming in to buy more.”
While many establishments that sell winning lotteries often promote their success, the County Line Road retailer is opting to forgo big banners and signs.
The Quick Mart appears to be somewhat of a hot spot, according Maridia, who has also sold several thousand and ten-thousand- dollar winning scratchers.
Lucky Millions offers more than $94 million in total prizes. Overall odds of winning any prize in the game, including break-even prizes, are one in 3.99, according to Texas Lottery.
Texas Lottery sold its first ticket in 1992 and has since generated more than $39 billion in revenue for the state and distributed over $89 billion in total prizes.
The group has also contributed more than $33 billion to the Foundation School Fund, supporting public education in the state, and $250 million for various Texas veterans organizations.
