The Elgin Juneteenth Organization, in partnership with the Elgin Police Department, is closing registration this week for its community- forward Shop with a Cop event.
The seasonal shopping spree pairs Elgin Police Officers with local children to purchase clothes, toys and other gifts with donated gift cards.
“The intent is not just about shopping, but also about building relat ionships between the kids and Elgin police officers,” Charlotte Thomas, Elgin Juneteenth Organization chairperson said. “This is a great opportunity for law enforcement and the community to work together and make our Elgin children’s holiday season a little brighter.”
The event will begin at 9 a.m., Dec. 14, at Elgin’s Walmart, 1320 U.S. 290 E., for children ages five to 10 that are eligible to attend school in the Elgin Independent School District.
Parents and guardians wishing to submit their child’s name must do so by Sunday, Nov. 24.
