Bastrop County Cares has announced a landmark partnership with the community it serves, set to establish a new nonprofit community center.
Through a newly signed land lease agreement with Bastrop County, BCC will lease 2.07 acres at 338 Cool Water Drive in Bastrop. The site will house a state-of-the-art facility envisioned as a hub for community impact, according to the team.
“We are deeply grateful to Bastrop County for this opportunity to create a vibrant hub of resources, programs and community engagement,” Norma Mercado said, BCC executive director. “This center will be a place where individuals and families can connect, thrive and access vital support, all while strengthening our local community.”
The partnership was made possible by the advocacy and support of Commissioner Mel Hamner, representatives said, marking a major milestone in enhancing resources and services for residents.
Plans for the center include spaces for children, youth and family programs, a comprehensive resource center and outdoor amenities such as nature walk trails and a community garden.
By bringing these features together, the center aims to create a collaborative space where organizations can deliver essential services and address critical needs in the region, Mercado said.
To ensure its success, BCC has enlisted the expertise of Evan Moilan, a nonprofit leader with nearly 28 years of executive experience in fundraising, strategic planning and organizational growth.
Moilan, who has previously raised over $7 million annually for Texas-based nonprofit Upbring, will lead a feasibility study for the center. According to BCC, his leadership and innovative thinking will guide the organization as it moves forward with this bold initiative.
The partnership with the county underscores a mutual focus on improving the health, well-being and future of local residents, Mercado added.
