PFLUGERVILLE — The Lady Wildcats varsity softball team unleashed a powerful offensive display Friday, March 14, racing to a 14-3 win over Pflugerville.
Sophomore Miranda Herring led the charge by going 3-for-4 at the plate and driving in four runs, seeing Elgin improve to 7-11 overall and 2-2 in district play.
Elgin took a 1-0 edge in the second inning on an RBI single from Herring. Junior Adrianna Sandoval’s run-scoring triple stretched the lead to 2-0 in the third, but Pflugerville plated one run to bring it back within reach.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Lady Wildcats broke the game open with a seven-run fifth, seizing a commanding 9-1 lead thanks to errors, a key bunt by junior Trinity Martinez and another RBI single from Herring.
Pflugerville cut the deficit to 9-2 in the bottom of the fifth, but Elgin sealed the run-rule victory with five more rounds of the bases in the sixth. Herring and junior Bianca Galindo each recorded RBI singles during the inning to secure the 14-3 outcome.
Senior pitcher Gabriella Sandoval earned the win on the mound, tossing six innings while yielding three runs on five hits and striking out eight.
E lgin’s girl s continue district play with a March 17 match at Pf lugerville Connally before facing Weiss the next day. They will return from spring break refreshed to host Marble Falls Tuesday, March 25, at 6:30 p.m.
