BASTROP — The Bastrop Lady Bears remained unbeaten in district play last week, rolling past Navarro 19-1 April 2 before holding off Liberal Arts and Science Academy 8-5 Friday, April 4.

vs. Navarro

The Lady Bears’ offense was firing on all cylinders in a run-rule victory over the Vikings.

Bastrop got on the board in the top of the first, scoring on an error to take a 1-0 lead. After retiring Navarro in order in the bottom half, the Lady Bears extended the advantage in the second, adding runs on a passed ball, a wild pitch and an error to go up 4-0.

Another error in the third pushed the lead to 5-0, and Bastrop broke the game open with an eight-run fourth inning. Bryleigh Fawcett and Bailey Merritt each delivered two-run singles to make it 9-0. Kylie McNabb added an RBI single, and Madison Perez followed with an RBI double for an 11-0 lead.

Lanie McCoy and Ella Greisenback capped the inning with back-toback RBI singles to give Bastrop a commanding 13-0 advantage. Navarro managed to score in the bottom half on a fielder’s choice, but the Lady Bears continued to pour it on.

Greisenback delivered another RBI single, followed by a sacrifice fly, a two-RBI double from McCoy and an RBI single by Laicey Sullivent to stretch the lead to 18-1.

The final run came on a dropped third strike, allowing a runner to score from third.

Greisenback earned the win in the circle, pitching five innings, allowing one run and striking out 11.

vs. LASA

The Lady Bears fought off a late rally from the Raptors, who erased a 5-0 deficit to tie the game in the sixth inning.

Bastrop took the early lead with a run on a wild pitch in the first. In the second, Perez and McCoy delivered back-to-back RBI singles, and a sacrifice fly made it 4-0. Bastrop added another run in the fourth on a groundout for the 5-0 cushion.

LASA answered with back-to-back home runs in the fifth to trim the lead to 5-3, then tied the game in the sixth with a pair of RBI singles.

The Lady Bears responded immediately in the bottom of the sixth. Perez roped a two-RBI double, and Sullivent added an RBI single to push Bastrop back in front, 8-5.

Bastrop closed out the game in the seventh on a groundout to seal the win.

The Lady Bears faced Crockett after press time April 8 and will return home to host Anderson Friday, April 11, at 7 p.m.
