Bastrop boys take meet title as girls, Cedar Creek advance

AUSTIN — Sixteen Bastrop High School athletes finished in the top four across 14 events at the District 24-5A track and field meet last week at Burger Stadium in Austin, punching their tickets to the area round.

The Bears dominated the team standings, claiming the district title with 199 points. The qualifiers will compete April 9 at the Districts 23-24 area meet at Georgetown East View.

Bastrop boys

Bastrop claimed gold in the 4x100-meter relay (Keyshon Moore, William White, Landon Barger, Weston Nielsen), the 4x200 relay (Kian Pucek, John Findlay, Barger, Nielsen), the 110-meter hurdles (Mills), 300-meter hurdles (Mills), pole vault (Greyson Thompson), high jump (Nielsen) and triple jump (Jaelyn Gratten).

Silver medals went to Nielsen in the 200, White in the 100, Rey Ponce in the 3,200 and Pucek in the triple jump.

The Bears also picked up bronze in the 4x400 relay (Asher Williams, Findlay, Diego Rangel, Mills), the 200 (Barger), 300 hurdles (Wilkinson), 110 hurdles (Wilkinson), long jump (Pucek), pole vault (Wilkinson) and high jump (LaDanian Merino).

Rounding out the Bastrop boys’ qualifiers with fourthplace finishes were Moore in the 100, Caleb Bolt in the 300 hurdles, Lisiate Hola in the shot put and Austin Molina in the discus.

Bastrop girls

Nine Lady Bears advanced to the area meet across nine events, as Bastrop finished second in the team standings behind Austin Anderson.

The team collected five gold medals, one silver and two bronze.

Winning events for Bastrop were the 4x100 relay (Tayler Herklotz, Nandi Faye, Victoria Hickman, Maggie Haywood), the 4x200 relay (Herklotz, Hickman, Kennedi Clemons, Perri Lowe), Haywood in the 100 and the long jump and Madison Young in the shot put.

Faye and Hickman took silver and bronze, respectively, in the 200, while the 4x400 relay team (Herklotz, Clemons, Daisy Gallegos, Haywood) added a third-place finish.

Lowe rounded out the qualifiers with fourth in the long jump.

Cedar Creek girls

The Lady Eagles advanced seven athletes in six events, led by Tina Overall’s first-place finish in the discus—Cedar Creek’s lone gold medal.

Makenzy Roberts earned silver in the 300 hurdles, and Crystal Turner claimed silver in the 3,200 and bronze in the 800.

Natasha Jackson added bronze in the 100 hurdles and finished fourth in the 300 hurdles, while the 4x100 relay team (Roberts, Sophia Finke, Kaini Mubasher, Elisah Sanchez) also secured a fourthplace finish.

Cedar Creek boys

Seven Eagles qualified for the area meet in five events.

Darren Franco led the effort with a bronze medal in the triple jump and contributed to the 4x200 relay team (Franco, Dylan Redmon, Logan Aguirre, Johnny James), which placed fourth.

Daniel Espinal (fourth, 200), William Hudson (fourth, 3,200) and Steven Risher (fourth, pole vault) also advanced.

With strong performances across the board, Bastrop and Cedar Creek athletes will now look to carry their momentum into the area meet.
