In a challenging week on the diamond, the Elgin Lady Wildcats suffered back-to-back district losses, falling 17-4 to the Weiss Red Wolves Tuesday, April 1, and 4-0 to the Georgetown Eagles Friday, April 4.
The losses dropped Elgin to 8-16 overall and 3-6 in district play.
vs. Weiss
Elgin’s struggles began early against the Red Wolves, as Weiss erupted for seven runs in the first inning—five of them unearned on two fielding errors.
The Lady Wildcats loaded the bases in the bottom half with a walk and a single but couldn’t capitalize.
Weiss extended its lead in the second on an RBI double and a bases- loaded walk for a 9-0 advantage. In the third, a two-run single stretched the gap to 11-0.
Elgin finally answered when junior Bianca Galindo delivered an RBI single to put the Lady Wildcats on the board.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Elgin sparked some offense in the fifth. Galindo swung for an RBI double, and freshman Averie Moreno followed with a bases- loaded walk to make it 11-3. Weiss responded with another RBI double, but sophomore Jaelyn Barker answered with an RBI single to bring the score to 12-4.
Weiss capped the game with five runs in the top of the seventh, and Elgin’s offense went quiet in its final at-bat.
Galindo led the Lady Wildcats at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Sophomore Katelyn Anderson took the loss, allowing 17 runs while striking out three over seven innings.
vs. Georgetown
Friday’s contest proved even tougher for Elgin’s lineup, as the Lady Wildcats managed just one hit in a 4-0 shutout by the Eagles.
The game remained scoreless through two innings before Georgetown broke through in the third with an RBI single.
Elgin struggled to generate offense, failing to reach base until the sixth inning.
Georgetown extended its lead in the bottom of the sixth, capitalizing on a single, a fielder’s choice and a sacrifice fly to push the margin to 4-0.
Junior Trinity Martinez recorded Elgin’s only hit with a single in the seventh.
Despite the loss, Anderson delivered a solid outing in the circle, holding Georgetown’s potent lineup to four runs.
Elgin will look to bounce back this week, hosting Pflugerville April 8 before visiting Pflugerville Connally Friday, April 11, at 7 p.m.
