BASTROP — The city officially recognized a pillar of the local faith community last week, honoring the Rev. Emeritus C.A. Williams for more than half a century of service.

Councilwoman Cheryl Lee introduced the recognition during Tuesday’s City Council meeting, commending Williams for his longtime leadership at Macedonia First Baptist Church and his lasting contributions beyond the pulpit.

“They asked me to say a few words,” he said. “Thank you. That’s a few.”

April 13 will now stand as Reverend Emeritus C.A. Williams Day in Bastrop, celebrating his 57 years as pastor of the church, the proclamation read.

Williams is credited with mentoring nine men who entered ministry and founding the Fish on Wheels Ministry to serve sick and homebound members of the congregation.

The packed chambers rose for a standing ovation as Williams stepped to the podium, offering his brief but heartfelt words.
