The Smithville Lady Tigers varsity softball team went 2-0 this past week, earning a 10-2 win over Navasota on Tuesday, April 8, and an 11-0 shutout victory against Bellville on Friday, April 11.
Vs. Navasota
Smithville wasted no time getting on the board, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Addison Otto set the tone with a solo home run to make it 1-0.
Sophomore Kenzly White followed with a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0. Sophomores Raven Stanley and Brityn Roberts delivered backto- back RBI singles, pushing the lead to 6-0.
Navasota trimmed the deficit with an RBI triple in the top of the second to make it 6-1, but the Lady Tigers responded with three more runs in the bottom of the frame. After a walk brought in one run, sophomore Emery Bayer ripped a two-RBI single to stretch the lead to 9-1.
Smithville tacked on one final run in the fourth with a sacrifice fly. The Rattlers plated a run in the top of the seventh, but the Lady Tigers held firm to secure the win.
Bayer led the way with three RBIs, while freshman pitcher Je s s ica Hinnant earned the win, throwing a complete game with 10 strikeouts and allowing just two runs.
Vs. Bellville
Hinnant followed up her strong outing with another gem, tossing seven shutout innings and striking out seven.
The Lady Tigers opened the scoring in the first, plating a run on a groundout. They broke the game open in the third inning with a six-run outburst.
Sophomore Brittney Collins drove in two with a single to make it 3-0, and White followed with an RBI single. Junior Dakota Young and Roberts each added RBI singles to extend the lead to 7-0.
Smithville added insurance in the sixth with an RBI single from senior Kenna Tiner, then capped the scoring in the seventh with a two-RBI double from Collins and an RBI single from Hinnant to make it 11-0.
Smithville improved to 21-5-1 overall and 8-1 in district play, sitting atop the standings with just one game left in the regular season. The Lady Tigers close out district play against Bellville on Tuesday, April 15, at 6 p.m.
