The Bastrop Lady Bears varsity sof tbal l team went 1-1 last week, dropping a tightly contested 11-10 game to Crockett on Tuesday, April 8, before bouncing back with a commanding 17-2 runrule victory over Anderson on Friday, April 11.

The Lady Bears suffered their first district loss of the season in a hard-fought 11-10 defeat against the Crockett Cougars, despite a late rally in the top of the seventh inning.
Bastrop fell behind 4-0 in the first inning but quickly responded in the second. Sophomore Jessa Clay hit a sacrifice fly to put the Lady Bears on the board, followed by RBI singles from senior Bailey Merritt and junior Lanie Coy. Merritt later scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 4-4.
Crockett regained momentum in the bottom of the second with a pair of runs, and extended its lead to 9-4 with a three-run fourth inning. The Lady Bears answered with four runs of their own in the top of the fourth, highlighted by RBI singles from junior Madison Perez and Clay to cut the deficit to 9-8.
Bastrop tied the game in the sixth on a fielder’s choice, but the Cougars retook the lead in the bottom half with two doubles to go up 11-9. Merritt brought the Lady Bears within one on an RBI double in the seventh, but Bastrop’s comeback fell short on a final pop-out.
Senior Emma Griesenbeck took the loss, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing six runs while recording two strikeouts.

Bastrop rebounded in a big way on Friday with a 17-2, five-inning victory over the Anderson Knights, powered by a six-RBI performance from Merritt.
After Anderson took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Bastrop answered immediately with an RBI single from Merritt. The Lady Bears exploded for six runs in the second inning, sparked by an RBI double from Clay, an error, and RBI hits from Coy and Merritt — who capped the inning with a two-run double.
In the third, Bastrop added five more runs, with senior Jayda Canada driving in a run on an RBI single to make it 12-1. After the Knights plated a run in the top of the fourth, the Lady Bears closed the door with five additional runs in the bottom half to trigger the run rule.
Molliegh Gertz earned the win in the circle, pitching two innings and allowing one run with three strikeouts.
With the win, Bastrop improved to 166-1 overall and 12-1 in district play, holding onto the top spot in the standings. The Lady Bears will close out the regular season on Tuesday, April 15, against McCallum.
