Erma “Memom” Davis McCurdy

Erma “Memom” Davis Mc-Curdy, of Elgin, passed away peacefully April 26, 2024, surrounded by family at St. David’s Hospital in north Austin. Erma was born June 25, 1932, near Austin.

She attended Austin High School, and spent most of her early years in the greater Austin area. She later moved up north to Pennsylvania and Ohio before ultimately settling back in Texas to be close to her family.

She lived a full life, helping many people along the way. Erma dedicated herself to raising her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as providing a safe haven for numerous teens in need. Known for her culinary skills and compassionate heart, she enjoyed decorating for holidays and each changing season.

Erma cherished family gatherings, music, travel and dancing, earning her the reputation of a social butterfly. She generously volunteered for Meals on Wheels, embodying a spirit of service.

Erma instilled a deep appreciation for family traditions, ensuring they would be passed down through generations to come.

She has been reunited with her loved ones in heaven, including her parents, Clyde Davis and Lillie Mae Berry Davis; her sister, Mable Brewer; her brother, Clifford Davis; her former husbands, Milton Ragland and William McCurdy; her children, Danny Lee Ragland, Dell L. Ragland, Dixie L. Ragland and Kevin McCurdy; and grandchildren, Monica Kincaide, Mary Herrera and Lugene May Kincaide, among others.

She is survived by her sister, Beulah Davis Renck; children, Dennis L. Ragland and Debbie L. Ragland Tolbert; grandchildren, Daniel L. Ragland, Misty Tolbert Garwood, Melisa Serfass, Allan “Packy” J. Tolbert IV, James L. Kincaide III and Gene W. Tolbert; and her great-grandchildren, Haley Garwood, Kelin Kincaide, Catherine Tolbert, Dominick Shemwell, Caitlin Ragland, Stetzon Steffens, Macayla Ragland, Alexis Steffens, James Warren “JW” Kincaide and Brice Garwood; as well as numerous other relatives.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday May 15, at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held May 16, 2 p.m. at Providence Jones Funeral Home, 604 State 95 North in Elgin. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
