BASTROP — The Bastrop track and field program will be well represented at the Region III-5A Meet next weekend in Houston.

Nine Bears and four Lady Bears secured spots at the regional competition by finishing in the top four of their respective events during the Districts 23-24-5A area meet April 9 at East View High School in Georgetown.

The region meet is set for Friday and Saturday at Challenger Stadium in Houston.

Bears

Six individual qualifiers and a relay team will represent Bastrop on the boys’ side.

Greyson Thompson led the way for the Bears with a first-place finish in the pole vault, while the 4x200-meter relay team of Keyshon Moore, John Findlay, Landon Barge and William White took second.

White also finished third in the 100meter run, making him the only multievent competitor for the Bears.

Rounding out Bastrop’s regional qualifiers are a quartet of fourth-place finishers— Kian Pucek, long jump; Jaelyn Gratten, triple jump; Brandon Mills, 300meter hurdles; and LaDanian Merino, high jump.

Lady Bears

Maggie Haywood will be busy next weekend, advancing in four events.

Haywood finished third in the long jump, fourth in the 100, and anchored both the third-place 4x100 and fourth-place 4x200 relay teams.

She’ll be joined on both relay squads by Tayler Herklotz, Nandi Faye and Victoria Hickman.

Cedar Creek

Cedar Creek will also have one representative at the regional meet.

Crystal Turner finished fourth in the 3,200-meter run to earn her berth.
