Local program’s summer opera announced

BASTROP – The 76th annual Bastrop homecoming and rodeo kicks off this week, bringing tradition, entertainment and donations to the city.

CEDAR CREEK – Bastrop Independent School District will host a back to school bash from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Cedar Creek High School, 793 Union Chapel Road in Cedar Creek. The event is free fr Bastrop ISD students. For more information, call Karen Trevino at 512-772-7174.

Through advancements in genealogy tech and perseverance decades later, the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office was able to identify and provide closure for the family of Kathy Ann Smith, whose body was found in 1979 near Elgin.

Fami liar faces of Elgin city management came together last week to celebrate improved town connectivity, christening several new sidewalks made possible through generous grants.

Displaced, but not broken

The Elgin Historical Association and the Elgin Depot Museum have teamed up with El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail Association to display their traveling “History, People and Places” exhibit from August 5 through September 23.

It was 2010 when I moved from Austin to Elgin. One of the first things I noticed was how much people wave to each other here. I remember driving down Avenue C as a newly settled Elginite, seeing someone standing on the side of the road waving. As I approached, I realized it was someone I knew. That had never happened to me before in Austin. If anyone ever waved at me from the side of the road, they weren’t using all five fingers.
