The city of Elgin is accepting nonprofit funding applications for the fiscal year 2023-24 annual budget.

BASTROP – October’s First Friday Art Walk, historic downtown’s free monthly gathering of local creatives, will be kicking off a month-long celebration commemorating the city’s 100-year-old triple-arch steel bridge known as Old Iron Bridge.

BASTROP – The Bastrop Independent School District Performing Arts Center will be hosting a landmark conference commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Delgado v. Bastrop ISD ruling, celebrating the legacy of educational equality progress that has been made since.

Elgin’s Independent School District Board of Trustees voted to join dozens of other Texas school districts in a lawsuit against the Texas Education Agency over its 2023 A-F Accountability Ratings, during a Sept. 18 school board meeting.

A resolution of the city of Elgin was passed to re-instate Amanda Carter as judge for the city’s municipal court, while Elgin’s own, Veronica Juarez-Dunne, was also named appointee to the 465th Judicial District Court by Governor Greg Abbott.

As Elgin’s immediate source for countywide news and stories prepares for their relocation to a more accommodating space, operations will begin to be carried out through the new office with the start of October.

The Elgin Chamber of Commerce hosted its Arabian Night Award Banquet Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Elgin S.P.J.S.T Hall.

In October of 1995, President Bill Clinton was coming to Texas and the Elgin High School band had been invited to play upon his arrival in Austin. Looking forward to their presidential debut, the band members practiced diligently, but first they had to perform at the Friday night football game in EHS Stadium.

He wipes out any grounds for you to worry at all by pointing you to Himself as your Savior and by bestowing His eternal life-giving righteousness upon you.

Gov. Greg Abbott has called a third special session, this time about school choice, for next month. He is promising retribution for lawmakers who oppose his move to enact school vouchers in Texas, the Texas Tribune reported.
