Elgin’s woman in business winner

Elgin’s Chamber of Comm erce honored Jeanette Shelby, of Jeanette Shelby Realty, with their SHE: Woman in Business award during last week’s banquet ceremony.

Elgin’s Chamber of Commerce honored Jeanette Shelby, of Jeanette Shelby Realty, with their SHE: Woman in Business award during last week’s banquet ceremony.

The Savvy, Healthy, and Empowered Women in Business networking group launched last year after the chamber saw a significant increase in the city’s women leadership presence, feeling it was important to help support these local forerunners.

The award was presented by manager of Acme Brick and chamber Treasurer Stacey Wilhite, with finalists chosen based off of their leadership, support for other women and the role they play within their community.

“Jeanette has been a pioneer for women of Elgin for decades,” said Wilhite. “She is the perfect combination of savvy, healthy and empowered, with the right amount of ‘let me tell you how it is.’ But Jeanette isn’t just a boss businesswoman, she is an active community volunteer.”

Shelby is the current president of Elgin’s Lion Club, a member of CASA and active with Alley Cats of Elgin.

Jeanette Shelby Realty has helped families find their homes across the county and been voted Best Real Estate Company in the Courier’s yearly poll for over a decade.

Other finalists for the award were Ericka Greenfield with First National Bank and Vanessa Lindsley with Austin Title.
