Sarah Elizabeth Larson was born March 6, 1985, in Georgetown. On Sunday morning, May 28, she passed away peacefully at her home in Taylor, following a lengthy illness. Family and friends gathered for visitation Tuesday, June 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elgin Funeral Home. A private celebration of Christian burial will be conducted at Elgin Cemetery the following day with Father Kim presiding.

Clarisa Milligan, 65, of Austin, passed away early Saturday morning, June 3, 2023. She will lie in state Friday, June 16, from noon to 5 p.m. at Elgin Funeral Home.

Reuben Schmidt was yet another Elgin-area survivor of the Bataan Death March in the Philippine Islands. He was born July 25, 1920, in Richland, Travis County. His parents were Rudolph Schmidt and Anna Hodde. Among other siblings, Reuben was the brother of Ella Matetzschk, the mother of Lawrence and Glenward who lived in Elgin and Coupland.

Smithville High School varsity baseball had several players named over the weekend to the 22-4A All-District team to cap off the 2023 season for the Tigers.

With the conclusion of the UIL softball season over the weekend, the Elgin High School varsity softball team recently announced the 23-5A All-District team winners with plenty of Lady Wildcats represented.
