ELGIN – The Cardboard Boat Race Speed Build Competition will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at Morris Memorial Pool, 802 N. Ave C. Boats must be made entirely out of cardboard and duct tape and should fit one rower. The first boat to make it to the opposite side of the pool wins. Boats may be no longer than eight feet and no wider than four feet. Joints and seams may only be taped. Boats must have sides that are a minimum of five inches tall. No rafts permitted. MCDADE – The Hawk Walk at Rising Sun will be from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Rising Sun Vineyard, 233 Edmonson Ranch Rd. in McDade. The interactive walk brings nature up close and personal to guests. Meet with a falconer in a class of no more than 15 individuals and learn about human’s ancient relationship with raptors through falconry. Participants must be at least 10 years old.
