Business development’s first multi-million move

Manufacturing company leaves Austin, opens new plant in Elgin

An Austin-based, family-owned manufacturer with over 70 years of history has relocated, becoming the first company to settle in Elgin’s new Business Park development with an updated $12 million facility.

Carr Lane Manufacturing, a maker of precision tools and components used in aircraft, automotive, spacecraft and furniture manufacturing, moved with its staff of 70-plus to 509 Innovation Way on Aug. 10, off of Texas Highway 290.

Employees and leaders gathered to cut the expansion’s ceremonial ribbon – the new plant is the biggest investment in the company’s seven decades of operation, still growing in a highly competitive industry, according to representatives.

Carr Lane President Colin Frost called the move a “landmark investment for our family- owned company and a long-term commitment to the Elgin community.”

Elgin’s Business Park was envisioned as a strategic initiative to attract diverse businesses and new opportunities, and built to help develop the community, according to speakers of the city.

“The city is proud to welcome Carr Lane Manufacturing,” said City Manager Thomas Mattis. “Their relocation to the Elgin Business Park is historic in many ways, as they have established the benchmark for others to follow. Jobs and increased tax base are obvious benefits, but we are most excited about their investment in the community as we grow together.”

Carr Lane is known primarily for its jig and fixture components, and has provided industry-standard parts to engineers and industrial equipment buyers since 1952.

“The new plant is a key part of our growth plans,” said Frost.
