Mickie Dell Dunbar Newstrom, 83, of Elgin, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 16, 2023. Born Aug. 24, 1940, at the Butler Brick Yard, she was the daughter of Willie Mae and Mike Dunbar.

Concepcion D. Martinez, age 77, of Elgin, passed away at her home Oct. 11, 2023. Concepcion was born July 23, 1946, in Austin.

The epitome of elegance and steadfast faith, with her family at her bedside, Sister Sandra Diana Payne entered eternal rest on Oct. 12, 2023, at the age of 73.

Emily Ellen Embree, known as Shadow Bear passed away Oct. 7, 2023. She was born Dec. 27, 1946.

When I was growing up, my daddy ran a country grocery store on Main Street in Elgin. He opened the store at 7 a.m. six days a week. It was Red and White when I was very young, but later became Nelson’s Foods.
