CALDWELL – The McDade High School varsity volleyball team made history Monday night as the program played in its first bi-district playoff match against North Zulch High School at neutral site Caldwell High School.
The Elgin High School varsity football team is coming off its bye week and is now heading into its final regular-season game of the year as the Wildcats will travel Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. to take on Leander Rouse High School at A.C. Bible Memorial Stadium.
BASTROP – The Cedar Creek High School varsity volleyball team had its 2023 season come to an end Monday night as the Lady Eagles fell in four sets to Austin McCallum High School in the bi-district round of the 5A playoffs. Although the upset-minded Lady Eagles came out and won the first set 25-18, Cedar Creek was defeated in the next three sets by the Lady Knights 17-25, 15-25 and 20-25.
BASTROP – The Bastrop Bears’ playoff hopes fizzled away in their Friday night matchup versus the visiting Liberty Hill Panthers.
CUERO – The Smithville High School varsity football squad is looking to bounce back from a lopsided 69-28 loss on the road Oct. 27 against the Gobblers of Cuero High School, who are now undefeated at 9-0 and currently ranked as the No. 4 team in 4A-2.
SMITHVILLE – The Smithville Independent School District community recently supported a student in mourning.
BASTROP – Lost Pines Theatre Guild will present Love and Vinyl, a new romantic comedy play by Bob Bartlett. Set against the backdrop of a charming vintage vinyl shop, this quirky romantic comedy will run at Astro Record Store, 910 Main Street in Bastrop. The show runs from 7 to 10 p.m. The limited seating ensures an up-close and personal connection between the audience and the performers, making each performance an intimate, unforgettable experience.

SMITHVILLE – Local chicken enthusiast John Finch, and his “Come and Wing It” team, took home the people of Smithville’s vote for Wingfest’s best chicken wing, the second year in a row.
MCDADE – The McDade High School marching band, under Band Director James Baker, have advanced to the University Interscholastic League State Marching Band Competition for the first time in program history.
