BASTROP — The Cedar Creek High School varsity volleyball team had its 2023 season come to an end Monday night as the Lady Eagles fell in four sets to Austin McCallum High School in the bi-district round of the 5A playoffs. Although the upset-minded Lady Eagles came out and won the first set 25-18, Cedar Creek was defeated in the next three sets by the Lady Knights 17-25, 15-25 and 20-25.
The Lady Eagles defied the odds this year with their run to the playoffs as this squad entered 5A-District 23 play with just a 2-17 record and had to battle within a very strong district to make the postseason.
Cedar Creek rallied to go 7-7 in district play, including clutch victories in four of its last five district matches to surge into the playoffs for the first time since 2017. This included a three-set sweep Oct. 20 over rival Bastrop High School and a pivotal victory Oct. 24 on the road against Pflugerville High School that punched the Lady Eagles’ ticket into the bi-district round of the playoffs to face a strong McCallum squad.
This is a team that will surely get even better going forward under Cedar Creek head coach Micah Valentine as the Lady Eagles will have returners next season with sophomore Keyaira Limuel Washington, junior Mackenzie Collins, junior Gracyn Hentschel, junior Madden Denton, junior Gianna Del Bosque and others.
