CALDWELL — The McDade High School varsity volleyball team made history Monday night as the program played in its first bi-district playoff match against North Zulch High School at neutral site Caldwell High School.
Despite a valiant effort, McDade came up short against North Zulch in a battle of the Lady Bulldogs. McDade was defeated in three straight sets by scores of 16-25, 17-25 and 19-25.
“I’m so proud of my girls. McDade has never had a winning season until now,” head coach Aaron Hallford said. “Last year was my first year to coach volleyball and we set the school record with 6 wins. This year we’re 15-6 and made the playoffs.”
In the loss, McDade junior Jessica Dube led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with a team-high four kills, two aces and one blocked shot. Leah Chavez had three kills and two aces against North Zulch, while junior Kelsey Dube had two aces of her own.
A strong 2023 season will surely set the foundation for future success for the Lady Bulldogs and that starts with the exceptional play that this team has gotten all year from McDade’s senior duo of Steffanie Zavala and Zoraya Chamberlain.
“I couldn’t be happier about the huge strides my girls have made,” Hallford said. “We are going to lose two seniors but next year should be even better.”
