MANOR – Internationally practiced organist Christina Harmon debuted a newly donated organ to the full New Sweden Lutheran Church with her handpicked selection of hymns and solos.

The service/concert, focused on praise, drew in a crowd of churchgoers and holy music enthusiasts alike to witness the talent on display of Harmon. Having also performed legendary worship sites like Westminster Abbey in London and Notre Dame in Paris, Harmon set a precedent of things to come for the neighborhood church.

“It’s just changed the whole aura of worship. I mean, if you can’t be inspired by this, you can’t be inspired,” said Pastor Hans Lillejord.

The musical arrangement demonstrated the full orchestral capabilities of the new organ, imitating church bells and chimes, horns and strings. Harmon pushed the limits of its stops, keys and pedals with pieces from J.S. Bach and Swedish folk songs. Donated in memory of Howard and Willella Lundgren, members of the family received praise and applause from everyone in attendance for this significant donation.

Harmon concluded her set with a “happy birthday” performance for a few of the church’s members, and collected her standing ovation.

Yvonne Creppon, who has been the church’s organist for over 50 years, also received her recognition. She was gifted a plaque in honor of her service to the church and appreciation from those present.

Lillejord invites all to join in with the congregation at 12809 New Sweden Church Rd., “Praise Him with the organ. Let this organ align with the holy proclamation of your word.”
