BASTROP – On Friday, June 30, former state Sen. Carlos Uresti was released from a federal prison in Bastrop.
Uresti was in prison serving part of his 12 year sentence for securities fraud, money laundering and other crimes according to his lawyer. Uresti’s sentence was reduced to five years and 10 month earlier this year. He served four years and four months in prison after he was convicted in 2018 on 11 felony charges for his role in a, now-defunct, oil field services company that defrauded investors.
He will now serve the rest of his term in a halfway house in San Antonio. Uresti’s sentence ends Dec. 12, 2024. No details have been released on why there was a reduction of his sentence.
