Smithville, McDade football highlight important dates

BASTROP COUNTY – Smithville Independent School District and McDade Independent School District are both staying busy with football as the Smithville Tigers and McDade Bulldogs have upcoming important dates.

SMITHVILLE TIGERS

The Tigers will have a youth athletic camp active this week July 24-27 as Smithville hosts an advanced youth football camp.

Under athletic director and varsity football head coach Cyril Adkins, the Tigers will have a four-day camp this week from 6-8 p.m. that will be for incoming sixth through ninth graders. Advanced football camp costs $20 per athlete and additional questions for Adkins can be answered via phone at (512) 589-4694 or email at [email protected].

As for Tigers varsity football, Smithville will travel at 7:15 p.m. on Aug. 11 to take on Pflugerville Connally High School and host Austin LBJ High School at 7:15 p.m. on Aug. 17 for its first pair of scrimmages. The Tigers open their regular season at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 25 when Smithville hosts Austin Travis High School for Parents Night.

MCDADE BULLDOGS

Six-man varsity football for McDade High School is right around the corner as the Bulldogs have highlighted their next month of action.

On July 31, the Bulldogs will have their first official day of practice with equipment handed out at 8 a.m. and practice from 9-11 a.m. afterward. There will also be a parent meeting at 6 p.m. on Aug. 1 with McDade athletic director and head football coach Nick Parker and his coaching staff.

Non-contact practice will continue until Aug. 5 when the Bulldogs are then able to have their first day of full-contact practice with pads and helmets.

Aug. 7-11 will have full-contact practice with the week concluding at 9 a.m. on Aug. 12 when the Bulldogs have their first preseason scrimmage at 9 a.m. against St. Mary’s Catholic School at Memorial Field in Taylor.

Aug. 14-24 will have practice from 4-5:30 p.m. on the field and the Bulldogs’ regular-season opener at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 25 on the road at Menard High School.
