Eva Ashe by one of her watermelon red crape myrtle trees at 18313 Rock Sage Cove, winner of Elgin Garden Club’s Yard of the Month for August. Ashe has learned which plants thrive best in the unforgiving Texas summers, with well-manicured and continuous blooms from multi-colored periwinkles, lantanas, golden heirloom roses and potted verbenas.
Chrysanthemums will extend the yard’s vibrance through the fall.
The Elgin Garden Club meets the first Tuesday of every month at the Grace Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 11th St. and Highway 290. Gatherings begin at 9:30 a.m. with a meet and greet, plant exchange, refreshments and program. Visitors and new members are always welcome.
