The Bastrop boys soccer team remains undefeated, and the Lady Bears tallied a big win last week.

Led by James Ramon, the Bastrop Boys are 10-0 and are currently ranked top 20 in the state. The girls are now 6-3 and have leaned on the stellar play of Riley Romney.

On Tuesday, Jan. 17, the Bastrop boys hosted the Harker Heights Knights. The Bears, as they have been all season, were dominant on both ends of the court.

They held a 1-0 lead after the first half, preventing the Knights’ offense from having any sort of breathing room. The Bears cashed in two more goals in the second half to secure a 3-0 victory.

Three days later, the Bears traveled to take on a solid Lake Belton Broncos squad. Both defenses played their A-game in what was a low scoring affair.

After being tied 0-0 for the majority of the contest, Bastrop finally found the back of the net in the second half and held on to win 1-0.

Meanwhile, the Lady Bears completely overmatched the Rudder Rangers on their home field Jan. 20.

Romney and company displayed dominant ball control and suffocating defense for all 80 minutes. Romney scored twice in the first half to give Bastrop a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Bears kept their foot firmly planted on the gas pedal in the second half. They continued to attack on offense and forced turnovers frequently on the defensive end.

Romney showcased her speed as she effortlessly zoomed past Rangers defenders. She finally converted her third goal of the game after attempting a number of on-target kicks.

A few others scored as the Lady Bears cruised to a 5-0 victory.

Both Bastrop soccer squads begin district play this week against Pflugerville (Jan. 24) and Hendrickson (Jan. 27). The girls will be at home on Tuesday and on the road Friday; it will be the opposite for the boys. Both games are scheduled to start at 7:15 p.m.
