BASTROP — The Bastrop Bears varsity baseball team was swept by the Anderson Trojans in a key district series last week, falling 6-4 Tuesday, April 15, and 4-0 Thursday, April 17.
Game one
The Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning, scoring on an RBI double from Frankie Andrada and two Trojan errors.
Both teams remained scoreless through the third and fourth before Bastrop tacked on another run in the fifth with an RBI triple from Bob Gorman to extend the lead to 4-0.
Anderson answered with three runs in the bottom half of the fifth, fueled by a two-run double and a bases-loaded walk to cut the deficit to 4-3. The Trojans then took their first lead of the night in the sixth inning, capitalizing on two Bastrop fielding errors to plate three more runs and secure the comeback victory.
Cooper Voight got the start for the Bears, pitching 4 1/3 innings with two strikeouts and three earned runs allowed.
Game two
Bastrop’s offensive struggles carried over into game two, as the Bears were shut out and managed just one hit.
Pitcher Val Regalado delivered a strong outing, holding Anderson’s potent offense scoreless through five innings. However, the Trojans eventually broke through, scoring four runs over the sixth and seventh to seal the series sweep. Gorman provided the Bears’ only hit, as the team finished just 1-for-21 at the plate with 10 strikeouts.
Bastrop dropped to 12-14 overall and 7-3 in District 24-5A play.
The Bears will wrap up the regular season on the road against Anderson Friday, April 25, at 7 p.m.
